보건복지부에서는 발달장애인의 정신건강의학과 이외의 진료과목(치과, 내과 등)을 이용할 때 편의를 제공하고,
중증 행동 문제에 대한 치료를 제공하기 위하여 발달 장애 거점 병원과 행동 발달 증진 센터를 지정하였습니다.
2016년부터 운영 중인 한양대학교병원과 양산부산대학교병원 외에도 2019년 인하대학교병원, 강원대학교병원, 충북대학교병원, 전북대학교병원, 서울대학교병원이 지정되었습니다.

보완 대체 요법은 효과가 있을까요?
자폐스펙트럼장애가 어린 시절부터 오랫동안 지속하는 발달 질환인 만큼 검증되지 않은 여러 치료가 보완 대체 의학이라는 이름으로 소개되고 있습니다.
흔히 비타민 보조제, 유산균, 허브, 특별 식이, 요가, 고압산소치료, 중금속 킬레이팅 제재 등이 있습니다.
아직 이와 같은 치료의 효과나 안정성에 대해서 과학적인 근거가 충분하지 못한 상황입니다.
근거가 충분하지 못하다고 하여 효과가 결코 없다고 볼 수는 없지만, 광고나 인터넷에 소개되는 많은 보완 통합 치료 관련한 정보는 의학적으로 검증되지 않은 경우가
대부분이므로, 이를 고려하신 부모님들께서는 반드시 소아정신과 의사에게 조언을 구하시기 바랍니다.

의사소통을 돕는 방법
1. 해야 할 일
- 이름을 불러서 자녀에게 말한다는 것을 알게 해야 합니다.
- 간단하고 명확한 단어를 사용합니다.
- 천천히 그리고 정확하게 말하도록 합니다.
- 간단한 제스처나 그림을 사용하여 말하는 내용의 이해를 돕습니다.
- 들은 것을 이해할 수 있도록 자녀에게 충분한 시간을 기다려 주세요.
- 언어 치료사로부터 도움을 받을 수 있는지 의사와 상의하세요.

2. 하지 말아야 할 일
- 자녀에게 한꺼번에 많은 질문을 하지 마십시오.
- 시끄러울 때 대화하는 건 어려운 일입니다.
- 중의적 의미를 가질 수 있는 말은 피하도록 합니다.
