Plot Overview[]Track 2 (Hasten Thoughts on Golden Wings)[]A man named Otto travels all the way to Cornelia's shop to buy a to buy a Trumphet that Cornelia had posted on Ebay. Cornelia had originally bought it from a flee market in Poland. Otto recognized the trumpet as it has a scratch in the bell. He recounts his past when he was in a Nazi camp, known as the Black House. The commander of the camp was quite superstitious and believed the playing of the trumpet would blow away the angry spirits of the dead jews. It was said the commander was so superstitious that he would not go to work if he got out of the wrong side of the bed.[10] The one playing the trumpet, Oscar, was well-known in the camp, as when he played, the gas chambers would be turned on. Every Jew was afraid of him, except for Otto. He would even offer him food, but Leotto, Otto's brother, would scold him and take him away before he caused any problems. Leotto and Otto were categorized as laborers and thus were not placed into the gas chambers. One day, Otto gave Oscar a star-shaped stone saying how his father believes stars would bring luck. Otto's father also played the trumpet every morning, which is why he really liked Oscar. That day, Otto sang Verdi's Nabucco for Oscar, but Oscar warned him instead saying that the song, which is a chorus of the Israelite slaves, would get them all killed here at the camp. Oscar kept the stone, but told Otto to stop bothering him.[11] During nighttime, Otto shared with his brother, Leotto, how all he could remember from their past was the trumpet that their dad played, which is why he was not afraid of Oscar. The following day, they went to the south wall to look at some violets as their old home had a backyard full of them. However, as they went to the southern wall, the soldiers caught them and thought they wanted to escape. Leotto, being quick-witted, lied to the soldiers that they were looking for star-shaped stones for the commander, to drive out evil spirits. The soldiers let them go, but only one of them, so Leotto was taken to the gas chambers. Otto rushes toward Oscar and grabs onto him and begs him to not play the trumpet or else his brother would die. In the struggle, Oscar drops the photo of his family, and in a that moment, Otto steals the trumpet but bumps into the commander. He is immediately taken to the gas chambers. The commander returns the trumpet to Oscar saying he should be careful as it is a sacred object to protect the Germans from the evil spirits of the Jews. He continues to mention how he found out Oscar's birthday was the same as St. Basil's, who was a church father of strong character who did not tolerate heresy. As Oscar prepares to play, he looks at the picture of his father, ponders, and then begins to play. However, the song is not the German anthem as usual, but rather it is Nabucco. In anger, the commander tells the soldiers to cancel everything as he believes he has dishonored St. Basil by praising the devil. He orders Oscar to be court-marshalled and for trumpets to be cancelled. The chambers were shut down that day and a day later, Hitler committed suicide. Leotto and Otto knew that it was the trumpet that had saved them. They were never able to find Oscar among the German soldiers in trial. Though Otto believed Nazi was inhuman from all the atrocities they did and thus testified against them at every trial, yet, he still hoped he would have had the chance to thank Oscar for saving their lives. After finishing his story, Otto turns to leave as Leotto is waiting for him in the car.[12] Super String Universe[]
